  • Who We Are

    The Subiaco Community Legal Service Inc. presently operates a Monday night drop-in clinic for disadvantaged persons who cannot afford legal advice or representation.

     

    In October 2017, the Service was incorporated with the support of the City of Subiaco. It is intended that with incorporation the service can improve its offering to the community and its volunteers and in particular, become a full-time community service legal centre.
     

    The Board of the Service comprises members of the Perth legal profession and other members from the Western Australian business community.

  • Our Board

    Our Board comprises the following:

    Aaron McDonald

    Chairperson

    Aaron is the Director of Pragma Legal. He sits on the Courts Committes of the Law Society of Western Australia. Aaron also is a member of The Piddington Society - an organisation which promotes access to justice in the community and collegiality within the legal profession.

    Greg McIntyre SC

    Greg went to the Independent Bar in Western Australia in 1993 and was appointed Senior Counsel in 2002. He was made an Adjunct Professor of Law in 2001 at the University of Notre Dame Australia.Greg's current practice includes commercial litigation and he has had vast experience in environment planning and heritage law, family law, local government, criminal law, native title, human rights, professional conduct, personal injuries and equity.

    Catriona Macleod

    Catriona is the Director of Cullen Macleod Lawyers. Her practice centres on commercial litigation and dispute resolution, with emphasis on the areas of construction, property, consumer law and franchising disputes. She sits on several boards and committees including the Asia-Pacific Advisory Board for the Centre for Legal Innovation and the Western Suburbs Business Association. Catriona has a particular interest in the intersection between technology and legal services and the opportunities that offers for access to justice.

    Robert French

    Robert is a dispute resolution lawyer at Francis Burt Chambers. His experience comprises commercial disputes, contentious regulatory matters, international arbitration, employment, industrial and occupational health and safety law, and administrative law.

    Tom French

    Tom specialises in dispute resolution (including litigation, arbitration, and adjudication) in projects & construction, resources, and professional practices. at Minter Ellison. He regularly advises contractors, principals, and engineers on major infrastructure disputes in respect to the construction of infrastructure on significant mining and resources projects in the Asia Pacific region and Africa, and in respect to the construction of significant commercial projects in the Perth metropolitan area.

    Nicholas van Hattem

    Nicholas is a barrister at Francis Burt Chambers and launched the Piddington Justice Project, an initiative to connect law graduates with community legal centres. He is the co-founder of Piddington Society. He was a recipient of the 2017 Lawyer of the Year Award.

    William Robinson

    William is a Partner at Wotton + Kearney. He has specialised in insurance law and personal injury, building and occupational health and safety disputes, public and occupiers’ liability, as well as property damage claims. He also acts for a range of construction companies in professional negligence disputes.

    Tom Hennessy

    Tom is the Strategic Planning Manager of Newcrest Mining. He has extensive business knowledge and experience. Tom is also an active community member and Director of The Mercy Health Foundation.

    Erica Thuijs

    Secretary

    Erica is a solicitor at Jackson McDonald. She has experience in conducting a range of personal injury matters including motor vehicle, workers' compensation, industrial accident and criminal injury compensation claims and has extensive knowledge of workers' compensation legislation, WorkCover processes and claims management.

    Sarah O'Brien-Smith

    Sarah is an Associate at HopgoodGanim Lawyers. She plays a key role in their resources team. Sarah’s experience includes assisting in the acquisition and sale of mining tenements and projects, due diligence, royalty agreements, farm-in agreements and access agreements and advising in relation to commercial aspects of mining and infrastructure tenure in Western Australia. She is a member of the Council of the Law Society of Western Australia.

    Ben Macpherson

    Ben is the Manager of Taxation Services at Pitcher Partners. He brings a wealth of taxation knowledge and has experience in structuring investments and business operations. Ben regularly assists local start-up companies with structuring and ongoing tax issues.
